(UPDATED) DJI Mavic Mini Troubleshooting (Why, How to Fix)

DJI Mavic Mini is another member of DJI’s most popular Mavic Series. When talking about problems with DJI Mavic Mini, there is not that many problems relative to other drones. Also, problems that people face with DJI Mavic Mini are not huge problems compared with other drone problems.

So I decided to go through many DJI forums and youtube videos and accumulate almost all the problems people have with Mavic Mini and answer them with my experience and research in one simple article. In this article, you would be able to figure out how to solve almost every problem you have with your Mavic Mini.

Common Problems With DJI Mavic Mini.

We would be talking about the following common problems regarding DJI Mavic Mini. Also, I would put the detailed article link to each problem for further troubleshooting.

  • Problem 1: DJI Mavic Mini not connecting to the controller.
  • Problem 2: DJI Mavic Mini not turning on.
  • Problem 3: DJI Mavic Mini not charging.
  • Problem 4: DJI Mavic Mini not taking off.
  • Problem 5: DJI Mavic Mini not stable.
  • Problem 6: DJI Mavic Mini not calibrating.
  • Problem 7: DJI Mavic Mini not connecting to phone.
  • Problem 8: DJI Mavic Mini “No GPS Signal 30007/30008” error.
  • Problem 9: DJI Mavic Mini keeps disconnecting.

Problem 1: DJI Mavic Mini not connecting to the controller.

In most cases, DJI Mavic Mini not connecting to the controller because of insufficiently charged batteries, outdated firmware, and an unpaired aircraft. Also, be sure to keep the controller and aircraft firmware in the same firmware. Unless they won’t connect or pair together.

Solutions.

  • Charge Mavic Mini aircraft and remote controller batteries to a sufficient level. Sufficient battery power is important to receive and send radio signals between the aircraft and controller.
  • Check whether both aircraft and controller are in the same firmware update. As I mentioned before you won’t be able to connect the Mavic Mini aircraft to the controller if you have installed different firmware on them.
  • Update Mavic Mini Firmware. Read how to update Mavic Mini firmware.
  • If the Mavic Mini aircraft indicators keep blinking yellow, that means the aircraft has unlinked from the controller. So You have to link the aircraft to the controller before connecting them. Open the DJI Fly App and go to the camera view. Then click on the three dots at the top right corner and go to the control section. Scroll all the way down and click “Connect to Aircraft”. Then hold the aircraft power button for approximately four seconds. Once both are linked, the camera view would be displayed on the screen.
  • Also if you have replaced the controller or the aircraft, first you have to link them.

Problem 2: DJI Mavic Mini not turning on.

Usually, Most Mavic Mini users face this issue when the DJI Mavic Mini aircraft or the battery had confronted improper temperatures or environments. When DJI intelligent batteries detect harmful temperatures or environments, they temporarily shut down to avoid damage that could happen in that kind of situation.

Solutions.

  • If Mavic Mini Battery is too warm leave it open area to cool. Because of higher temperatures could damage the battery, the DJI intelligent battery won’t turn on at higher temperatures (above 86°F /30°C).
  • If you are in a frigid area or winter season, give it a few minutes to warm up. I have heard that many DJI drone users face this issue around December holidays when the temperature is at its lowest.
  • Check whether the Mavic Mini battery has gone into hibernation mode. If the Mavic Mini battery indicator LEDs flash solid red even after connecting to the charger, the battery might have gone into hibernation mode. So to solve this issue, you have to kick the battery out of the hibernation mode. Power on the Mavic Mini battery and wait until the LEDs turn off. Then connect the battery to the charger and plug it. Leave the battery in the charge for a few hours to come out from hibernation mode and charge.

Problem 3: DJI Mavic Mini not charging.

When the DJI Mavic Mini battery detects higher or lowers amperage or voltage, it would usually refuses to get charged. Also, outdated battery firmware, damaged battery cells, and warm batteries could cause the same issue. Besides that, be sure to check whether the charger is broken or faulty.

Solutions.

  • Plug the charger into a power outlet with the required voltage and current. Usually, the DJI battery charger required input voltage is around 100 – 240 V and the amperage is 1.4 A.
  • If the Mavic Mini battery is hot, leave it for a few minutes in an airflow to cool. If you left the battery or aircraft in a closed area on a hot summer day or you just finished a flight, The battery might be hot enough to damage the battery while charging. So it would refuse to charge.
  • Update Mavic Mini Battery Firmware. update the aircraft firmware while keeping the battery in it.
  • Check whether the battery has gone into hibernation mode. if the battery indicator LEDs are solid red once turned on and keep flashing red even after connecting to the charger it might have gone into hibernation mode. Turn on the battery and wait until the solid red light goes out. Then connect the battery to the charger and plug it. Then leave the battery for a few hours and the battery would come out from hibernation mode.
  • Check whether the charger is Faulty or broken. 
  • If Mavic Mini Battery is swollen or damaged replace it. If your battery is swollen, it’s the nightmare of the battery issues. Stop using swollen batteries as soon as possible. Because swollen batteries are so dangerous and can explode at any time. Especially if there is any action with the battery like charging.

Problem 4: DJI Mavic Mini not taking off.

In most cases, DJI Mavic Mini won’t take off because of IMU & compass miscalibration, unpaired aircraft, DJI battery malfunction, or being on no-fly zones. If the aircraft is not taking off even though the propellers are spinning at sufficient angular speed, you have definitely installed propellers in the wrong pattern.

Solutions.

  • If the Mavic Mini Aircraft indicators keep blinking yellow, the aircraft is unlinked from the controller. If aircraft indicators keep blinking LEDs yellow once it is turned on that means the Mavic Mini aircraft needs to be paired to the controller.
  • Update Mavic Mini Firmware.
  • Calibrate Mavic Mini IMU and Compass. IMU and Compass are essential units for the drone for a safe flight. So when you haven’t calibrated the drone properly the system would detect the issue and issue and stop the takeoff. Read How to Calibrate IMU and compass.
  • Install propellers are in the proper configuration. As I mentioned before if the propellers are spinning but it’s not taking off or flipping over, you have mounted the propellers incorrectly.
  • Check whether you are in a Geofenced area. Open the DJI Fly app and it would prompt a message if the aircraft is in a geofenced area. You would be able to take off and fly the Mavic Mini after going through the procedure of self-unlocking or custom unlocking.

Problem 5: DJI Mavic Mini not stable.

In most cases, the DJI Mavic Mini won’t stay still or drift when the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), or the compass is miscalibrated. Other than that, Electromagnetic interference, malfunctioning motors, and distorted propellers can unstable the Mavic Mini.

Solutions.

  • Avoid Electromagnetic interference. Avoid flying around powerlines and communication towers.
  • inspect Mavic Mini propellers. Check whether you have placed propellers in the right pattern. Also, check whether a propeller is distorted. If they are distorted, replace all the propellers with new Mavic Mini propellers.

Problem 6: DJI Mavic Mini not calibrating.

Most times the DJI Mavic Mini won’t calibrate because of electromagnetic interference. If you are calibrating the Mavic Mini indoors, just try calibrating the aircraft outdoors away from powerlines, communication towers, huge buildings, or any electromagnetic interferences. Also, don’t bring electronics and metal close to the aircraft while the calibration process. Other than that outdated firmware and low battery power also cause this issue.

Solutions.

  • Charge the aircraft fully or to a sufficient level before calibration. Drones like DJI have more safety features to keep the drone safe and avoid risky actions. If you are trying to calibrate a drone with low battery power its system might reject the calibration process because of its built-in safety features keeping the drone from improper calibration.
  • Try to calibrate in an open area. DJI recommends IMU calibration on an open field, so if you are doing the imu calibration in a tightly enclosed space go out and try it again.
  • Calibrate the Mavic Mini on a flat surface. When you are calibrating the drone you definitely have to use an entirely flat surface. If you are attempting to calibrate the drone on an uneven surface it will lead to calibration failure or faulty calibration results.
  • Update Mavic Mini Firmware if you have outdated firmware.

Problem 7: DJI Mavic Mini not connecting to phone (DJI Fly app).

In most cases, DJI Mavic Mini won’t connect to DJI Fly app because of wifi connection issues of the aircraft, DJI Fly mobile application issues, and outdated Mavic Mini firmware. Also, it’s worth checking whether the phone is compatible with the DJI Fly app.

Solutions.

  • Update the DJI Fly app. If you are using an older version of the app on your phone, it might not respond with the current firmware. So, check whether a DJI Fly app update is available and install it.
  • Update DJI Mavic Mini Firmware.
  • Reset the Mavic Mini aircraft and try connecting again. Hold down the power button for 9 seconds until you hear three beeps to reset the drone. Then try reconnecting the wifi connection using the default password.

Problem 8: DJI Mavic Mini “No GPS Signal 30007/30008” error.

Many DJI Mavic Mini users face this common “No GPS Signals” issue all over the world. If you are in GPS mode and get this notification, you are probably unable to take off the drone. So it’s quite an annoying issue.

Solutions.

  • If you have outdated DJI firmware, update it using DJI Assistant 2 or the DJI Fly app.
  • Update the DJI Fly app or uninstall the application and install it again.

  • Factory reset the Mavic Mini and the controller.
  • Upgrade the GPS module. If you still have the issue, there would be an issue with the GPS module. It might have been blocked or damaged. If it’s damaged you have to contact DJI and send them to install a new one. Although you can buy new GPS modules online it’s not good to do hardware stuff by yourself and DJI is also not happy about it.

Problem 9: DJI Mavic Mini keeps disconnecting.

Usually, crowded or poor signals, high levels of electromagnetic interference, and low battery power cause the Mavic Mini to keep disconnecting from the controller. Besides that having installed outdated firmware or firmware glitches caused the Mavic Mini aircraft to keep disconnecting from the controller.

Solutions.

  • Avoid High levels of electromagnetic interference. Electromagnetic interference can cause losing the connection between the drone and the controller. You can expect this kind of situation when flying in urban areas where the many power lines are carried through.
  • Update Mavic Mini Firmware.
  • Charge Mavic Mini Aircraft and controller battery to a sufficient level. Charging both the Mavic Mini aircraft and the controller would definitely certify a stronger connection. At least charge them above 50% before flying the drone.
  • Change the frequency of radio signals to upper frequency. because high-frequency channels are less crowded and capable of transferring data fast. Open the DJI Fly app and go to the “Wifi Settings” section of the app. Then change the channel to about 5.8Ghz frequency.
  • Factory reset the controller and drone. This would help with clearing glitched settings of the aircraft or the controller that caused this issue.
  • Face sides of antennas toward the drone. This would send radio signals efficiently to the aircraft.

Problem 10: DJI Mavic Mini remote controller keeps beeping.

Just like every other DJI controller, the Mavic Mini controller keeps beeping when a faulty or low battery is detected, return to home activated, or disconnected from the aircraft. In those scenarios, users are able to figure out the issue or message easily. But most of the time users confuse when the controller keeps beeping because of miscalibrated joysticks are detected or glitches.

Solutions.

  • Calibrate Controller sticks. Launch the DJI Fly app and connect the aircraft and turn off the drone. Go to the controller settings and tap remote calibration. Then you will notice virtual joysticks on the screen are not centered. Tap calibration and move virtual joysticks 100% to every direction. Then click finish and turn off the controller.
  • Update Firmware of the remote controller.
  • Reset the remote controller.

Problem 11: DJI Mavic Mini not recognizing SD card.

Why DJI Mavic Mini not recognizing the SD card.

If the SD card is not compatible with DJI Mavic Mini or it’s not formatted in the “FAT32” file system, DJI Mavic Mini won’t be able to recognize the SD card. Other than that, Mavic Mini firmware issues, malware, and corrupted SD cards that cause the same issue.

Solutions.

  • Check whether the SD card is compatible with Mavic Mini. Visit the Mavic Mini Product page and check whether your SD card is listed under the supported SD cards field.
  • Repair the SD card using Windows Command Prompt. Connect the SD card to the PC using an adaptor and open the command prompt. Then type “chkdsk” and leave a space and specify the SD card driver letter (Ex: chkdsk D). and hit enter. After that, you’ll have to wait patiently until the process is done. Once the process is finished, your SD card should be fixed and ready to go.
  • Format the SD card. Connect your SD card to your PC and enter File Explorer. Then have a backup of current files on the SD card. Then right-click on the SD card driver and select the format option. Wait a few seconds until it’s done.
  • Scan the SD card using antivirus software. Viruses and malware can malfunction the SD card operation and won’t refuse some devices to recognize the SD card.

Problem 12: DJI Mavic Mini not recording video.

Why DJI Mavic Mini not recording video?

DJI Mavic Mini won’t record video because of SD card space partition issues, an invalid file system, outdated firmware or firmware bugs, and Viruses & Malware.

Solutions.

  • Format the SD card.
  • Update Mavic Mini Firmware. Firmware is the software that manages all the actions inside the drone, including storing data on an SD card. So if you haven’t updated your firmware for while it might have outdated and causing this kind of issue. Also, bugs in current firmware could cause this.
  • Repair the SD card using Windows Command Prompt. Connect the SD card to the PC using an adaptor and open the command prompt. Then type “chkdsk” and leave a space and specify the SD card driver letter (Ex: chkdsk D). and hit enter. After that, you’ll have to wait patiently until the process is done. Once the process is finished, your SD card should be fixed and ready to go.
