Parrot often releases parrot drone firmware updates to their drones to fix current issues and bugs with parrot drones and offer new features. Before Updating Parrot Drone Firmware.

  • Charge the Bebop aircraft fully or sufficient level. (above 50%).
  • If you haven’t installed the latest version of the flight app, go to the Appstore or Playstore and install it.
  • Clear all cached data and app data of the FreeFlight app or other flight apps. Because cached data and other existing app data could cause firmware update failures.
  • Turn on the parrot drone and reboot the drone. To reset the drone turn on the drone and press the power button and hold for about 12 seconds and let it reboot itself. Rebooting the parrot drone would clear all the current settings and data which could cause firmware update failures.

How to Update Parrot Bebop / Parrot Bebop 2 Firmware.

Parrot Bebop and Bebop 2 are the most popular drones parrot ever released. Parrot bebop firmware can be updated in two methods. Those are updating firmware using the Freeflight app and updating using USB Flash Drive. Let’s look at how they are done.

Update Parrot Bebop / Parrot Bebop 2 firmware Using the Freeflight app.

  1. Connect the smartphone to the internet and launch the Freeflight Pro app on your smartphone.
  2. Click on the “update” button on the left-hand side of the home screen of the Freeflight app.
  3. Then select the latest update version and hit the start button. Then the latest firmware update would be downloaded automatically.
  4. Once the firmware is completely downloaded, close the Freeflight app and go to Wifi settings and connect to the Bebop drone.
  5. Relaunch the Freeflight app and tap on “check for updates”. Then select the firmware you downloaded and press ok.
  6. Wait until the firmware update installation is completed. Once the installation is completed, the Parrot bebop will reboot automatically.
  7. After rebooting process, open the Freeflight application and connect to the Bebop drone. Then check whether the drone is up to date.

Update Parrot Bebop / Parrot Bebop 2 firmware Using a USB Flash drive.

  1. Connect the USB Flash drive formatted in FAT32 and empty to your PC.
  2. Open your internet browser on your PC and go to the Parrot Bebop Support Webpage.
  3. Then go to the “Downloads” section on the left-hand side and click “Software Update” to download the firmware file. The file with the “.plf” extension would be downloaded automatically to your download folder.
  4. Copy or move the downloaded firmware file to the root directory of the empty USB flash drive.
  5. Connect the USB flash drive to the Bebop drone using an OTG cable.
  6. Power on the Parrot Bebop/ Bebop 2 aircraft and it will begin the firmware update process. Once the firmware update process is completed, the drone will reboot.

How to Update Parrot Anafi Firmware.

  1. Power on the Parrot Anafi aircraft.
  2. Then go to the wifi settings of your smartphone and connect to the Anafi drone.
  3. Launch the Freeflight application on your smartphone and click on the drone icon on the Freefligh app home screen.
  4. Tap on the green button on the right to update the firmware to the latest version. Then wait until the “Firmware Download”, “Sending to Drone”, and “Update and Reboot” steps are ticked.
  5. Then you will be directed to the Magnetometer calibration process. Turn the drone around axes as the Freeflight applications ask and demonstrate.
  6. Once you have done that, the Parrot Anafi firmware is updated successfully.

How to Update Parrot AR Firmware.

  1. Power on the Parrot AR aircraft and connect the smartphone to the drone via Wifi.
  2. Then open the Freeflight app on your smartphone.
  3. Click on the AR drone update option on the home screen of the Freeflight app. Then the latest firmware would be downloaded and sent to Parrot AR aircraft. Then the Parrot AR aircraft will start installing the firmware. Once it’s installed, the drone would be rebooted automatically.
  4. Once it is turned on reconnect the smartphone to the Parrot AR again and open the Freeflight app. Go back to AR Drone Update and check whether it shows “Your AR Drone Is Up To Date”.

How to Update Parrot Mambo Firmware.

  1. Connect Parrot Mambo to your PC using a data cable. Once you connected the drone, the PC would recognize the device.
  2. Then launch the internet browser on your PC and visit the Parrot Mambo Support Webpage. Then go to the “Downloads” section on the left-hand side and click “Software Update” to download the firmware file. The file with the “.plf” extension would be downloaded automatically to your download folder.
  3. Copy or move the downloaded firmware file to the recognized drone file directory.
  4. Then unplug the Parrot Mambo from the PC and power on it. The drone would power on and start to blink front LEDs orange when the firmware is being installed. Front LEDs would flash green normally when updating process is done.
