(FIXED) DJI Airsense Not Working (Why, How to Fix)

When I was searching about issues with DJI drones, I saw DJI airsense not working issue in many places. DJI airsense helps to the drone to detect helicopters, planes and other aerial vehicles and gives an early alert to user to take action.

When users are getting the DJI airsense not working error, they can’t take off the aircraft without caution. So it’s a real issue and needs user attention. So I thought it would be nice to research on this issue, gather useful information and write an helpful article for users who also are struggling with the same issue.

Causes of DJI Airsense not working issue.

Let’s have a brief talk about the causes of DJI Airsense not working issue.

  • Firmware Issues. I think this is the major reason for this issue.Most of the time users get this issue after updating the aircraft’s firmware. Because sometimes there are some issues with the airsense feature of the firmware.
  • DJI mobile app issues. Sometimes glitched or faulty DJI GO/ DJI Fly app versions also could malfunction the operations and features.
  • Temporary glitches. Sometimes this could be just a temporary glitch and you just have to restart the unit to troubleshoot the issue.

How to Fix DJI Airsense not working issue.

Follow the below steps by step process to fix the DJI airsense issue.

Step 1: Restart the DJI drone unit.

First, try restarting the whole DJI unit. It would clear temporary settings and data of the DJI drone. So if you are getting this issue as an effect of a temporary setting or data, this would troubleshoot the issue.

  • Power off the aircraft and controller.
  • Then close the DJI mobile application (DJI GO/ DJI Fly). if you can restart the mobile device too.
  • Power on the aircraft and controller again.
  • Launch the DJI mobile app and connect to the aircraft.
  • Then check whether the error is gone. Else move to the next step.

Step 2: If you’re on outdated DJI firmware update the firmware.

Outdated firmware wouldn’t be compatible with new updates and malfunction features including DJI airsense and others.

How to update DJI Firmware using DJI GO/ DJI Fly.

  1. Launch the DJI Fly/ DJI GO app and tap on the “Update Now” button in the top red highlighted section which shows the “New update available” message.
  2. Tap on the blue “Download Now” button and start downloading the latest firmware.
  3. Then tap on the “Start Update” button on the screen.
  4. After the updating process, tap on the “Complete” button at the bottom.

How to update DJI firmware using DJI Assistant 2.

  1. Download and install DJI Assistant 2 on the PC.
  2. Connect the aircraft to the PC using the USB cable and power on the drone.
  3. Open DJI Assistant 2 application and log in to your DJI account.
  4. Choose drone and click on the “Firmware Updates” on the left panel.
  5. Then click on the “Upgrade” button of the latest firmware.
  6. Then click on “Start Update”.
  7. Follow the same steps connecting the remote controller and update its firmware too.

Step 3: If you’re in the latest firmware, downgrade the firmware.

Let’s downgrade the firmware of the drone. Because many users face this issue because of bugs with new firmware.

Downgrade firmware using DJI Assistant 2.

Follow these steps to downgrade the drone’s firmware using DJI Assistant 2.

  1. Download and install DJI Assistant 2 to the PC.
  2. Connect the drone to the PC using the USB cable.
  3. Power on the drone.
  4. Open DJI Assistant 2 application and log in to your DJI account.
  5. Choose drone and click on the “Firmware Updates” on the left panel. Then click on the “Downgrade” button of the recent firmware.
  6. Click on “Start Update” and wait until the firmware is downloaded and installed.
  7. Be sure to downgrade the controller’s firmware to the same version by following the same steps again with connecting the remote controller.

Downgrade firmware using DJI GO/ DJI Fly app.

  1. Launch the DJI mobile app and click on the burger menu icon at the right top corner.
  2. Then wait for 5 seconds.
  3. Then select the firmware version and hit download.
  4. Wait until the firmware is downloaded and installed.

Most of the time, at this stage you must have fixed this issue. If you are still getting this issue, keep following the below steps.

Step 4: Uninstall the DJI mobile app.

Uninstall the already installed DJI mobile app from your mobile device. Because it would clear cache and app data.

Step 5: Update the DJI app (DJI GO/ DJI Fly).

Next, we are going to update your DJI mobile app properly and latest. Because sometimes users install faulty DJI mobile app (DJI GO/ DJI Fly) from different sites and face different issues (especially Android users, because DJI apps are not officially published in Playstore and needs to be downloaded from DJI Downloads center).

  • Use your mobile device and visit the DJI Downloads center.
  • Then tap on the preferred DJI app (DJI GO/ DJI GO4 / DJI Fly).

If you are an IOS user,

  • Tap on the IOS icon and the app would be open in Appstore.
  • Tap on “GET” button and install the app to the device.

If you are an Android user,

  • Tap on the Android icon and the apk file would be downloaded to the mobiles downloads directory.
  • Enter the downloads directory and click on the downloaded apk file.
  • Follow the prompted installation setup and install the app.

Step 6: Factory reset the drone using DJI Assistant 2.

Factory resetting the drone would back the current settings and data of the drone to the default ones. So if your drone’s faulty settings cause the issue this would troubleshoot this issue. Unfortunately, factory resetting is not available for newer DJI drones. You can factory reset DJI Mavic Pro, Inspire, and Phantom series drones.

How to factory reset using DJI Assistant 2.

  • Connect the aircraft to the PC using the USB cable and power on the aircraft.
  • Launch the DJI Assistant 2 PC application and log in to your DJI account and choose your DJI drone.
  • Then hit “Factory Restore Defaults” and hit “Confirm”.
