(UPDATED) Parrot Bebop 2 Troubleshooting (Why, How to Fix)

When I was on a Parrot Bebop 2 forum I noticed that many users face different issues with Parrot Bebop 2. Most of them are so common to almost every drone and I have also personally faced those issues with my drone. So I thought it would be helpful for Parrot Bebop 2 users if I could write an article about Parrot Bebop 2 troubleshooting.

Thanks to forums, youtube videos, and conversations I was able to collect almost all the common problems with Parrot Bebop 2 and how to fix it. Let’s see what are the common issues with Parrot Bebop 2 and how to troubleshoot them.

Common Problems With Parrot Bebop 2.

  • Problem 1: Parrot Bebop 2 not turning on.
  • Problem 2: Parrot Bebop 2 not connecting to the controller.
  • Problem 3: Parrot Bebop 2 not recording.
  • Problem 4: Parrot Bebop 2 not connecting to phone.
  • Problem 5: Parrot Bebop 2 not charging.
  • Problem 6: Parrot Bebop 2 return home not working.
  • Problem 7: Parrot Bebop 2 no internet connection.
  • Problem 8: Parrot Bebop 2 no wifi.
  • Problem 9: Parrot Bebop 2 GPS not working.

Problem 1: Parrot Bebop 2 not turning on.

Usually, Parrot Bebop 2 won’t turn on or is unable to turn on due to faulty parrot battery, outdated firmware, and insufficient battery.

Solutions.

  • Charge the Bebop 2 aircraft and controller battery to a sufficient level before every flight. Insufficient battery power is so important to turn on the battery.
  • Check whether the Parrot battery is faulty. Use a multimeter and check whether the battery output satisfies the 7.4V – 11.1V.
  • Update the Parrot Bebop 2 Firmware using the Freeflight Pro app. Read How to Update Parrot Drone Firmware.
  • Reset the Parrot Bebop 2. To reset the Bebop 2, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds and wait until it reboots.

Problem 2: Parrot Bebop 2 not connecting to the controller.

Usually, Parrot Bebop 2 not connecting to the controller due to Parrot Bebop 2 outdated firmware, faulty aircraft or controller settings, and insufficient battery power.

Solutions.

  • Charge the Parrot Bebop 2 aircraft and controller to a sufficient level before a flight. Sufficient battery power in both controller and aircraft is so important to connect them and keep the connection steady.
  • Upgrade the Parrot Bebop 2 firmware. Read How to Update Parrot Drone Firmware.
  • Upgrade the Wifi band to 5GHz. open the Freeflight Pro app and Settings> Network. Then change the Wifi band 2.4GHz to 5GHz which is less crowded. For more check out the video below.
  • Reset the Parrot Bebop. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to reset the Parrot Bebop. Then wait until it reboots.

Problem 3: Parrot Bebop 2 not recording.

Parrot Bebop 2 won’t be able to record because of SD card space partition issues, an invalid file system (different from FAT32), outdated firmware or firmware bugs, and Viruses & Malware.

Solutions.

  • Perform disk partition and file system change using MiniTool Partition Wizard. Read the Detailed article to find out how to perform disk partition and file system change using MiniTool Partition Wizard.
  • Format the SD Card. 
  • Repair the SD card using the Windows command prompt. Connect the SD card to the PC and open the command prompt. Then type “chkdsk” and leave a space and specify the SD card driver letter (Ex: chkdsk D). and hit enter. Once the process is done the sd card is repaired.
  • Update Parrot Bebop 2 Firmware. Firmware is the key element that manages all the components inside the drone, including storing data on an SD card. So if the current firmware is glitched or outdated, it might cause this issue.
  • Scan the SD card using an antivirus program.

Problem 4: Parrot Bebop 2 not connecting to phone.

In most cases, Parrot Bebop 2 wouldn’t be able to connect to the Freeflight Pro or phone because of the phone’s wifi settings issues, outdated or glitched Freeflight Pro application, and outdated Bebop 2 firmware.

Solutions.

  • Reset Parrot Bebop 2. Resetting Bebop 2 would help to clear glitched or faulty settings on the aircraft. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to reset the Bebop 2. The LED will blink green and orange for a while, then green and the Bebop will shut down. Turn on the aircraft again and try to connect.
  • Update Parrot Bebop 2 firmware. 
  • Clear Freeflight Pro app cache data and app data. Go to Settings>Apps>Freeflight Pro (might be different for you) then clear both cache and app data.
  • Update the Freefligth Pro app.
  • Reset mobile network settings. 
  • Try with another mobile device.

Problem 5: Parrot Bebop 2 not charging.

Usually, the Parrot Bebop 2 is not charging because of a faulty battery, outdated battery firmware, faulty or broken charger, and high or insufficient amperage or voltage. Sometimes bricked batteries (drained batteries) also cause this issue.

Solutions.

  • Plug the Parrot battery charger into a power outlet with the required voltage and amperage. Usually, the Parrot battery charger requires 100-240V voltage.
  • Check whether the Bebop 2 charger is faulty or broken. Usually, Parrot Bebop 2 charger output voltage and amperage satisfy 12.6V and 3.5A. Use a multimeter and measure the output voltage and amperage of the Bebop 2 charger.
  • If your battery is warm, leave it an airflow to cool.
  • Update Parrot Bebop 2 Firmware. Read How to Update Parrot Drone Firmware.
  • If the battery is swollen, leaky or damaged, it’s advisable to replace the battery.
  • If the battery is bricked, follow the steps in the below video carefully.

Problem 6: Parrot Bebop 2 return to home not working.

Usually, Parrot Bebop 2 return to home feature doesn’t work or malfunctions because of faulty GPS data. Once you turned on the Parrot Bebop 2, it records the current location as the home but it never updates it until you restart the drone. So if you moved to another place with the Parrot Bebop 2 turned on, the Bebop 2 would move to the previous home point, once you activated the return to home feature.

Solution.

  • If you moved to a new place reboot the Parrot Bebop 2. Just because Parrot Bebop 2 updates it’s home point once it turn on, you have to reboot the Bebop 2 to update the current home point.

Problem 7: Parrot Bebop 2 no internet connection.

Usually, Parrot’s Freeflight Pro app indicates no internet connection because of software glitches in the current FreeFlight Pro app version or cellular data issues on the phone.

Solution.

  • Check whether you have given the required permissions to the Freeflight Pro. Go to Settings > Apps > Freeflight Pro and check whether you have given them. The above process can be different from device to device.
  • Clear cache and Freeflight Pro app data. Go to Settings > Apps > Freeflight Pro and clear cache and app data.
  • Update the Freeflight Pro app.

Problem 8: Parrot Bebop 2 no wifi.

Usually, Parrot Bebop 2 wifi not showing up because of issues with faulty Bebop 2 aircraft settings, outdated firmware, and faulty mobile device’s wifi settings. Most of the time, it happens because of mobile device wifi issues.

Solutions.

  • Reset Parrot Bebop 2. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to reset the Bebop 2 and wait until it reboots.
  • Turn on airplane mode and turn off it. When you turn on airplane mode, it would completely shuts down the network on your device. Then when you turn on it again it would try to detect the new devices and reconnect them.
  • Restart the mobile device. Restart the mobile to clear the faulty cache data.
  • Enable Networking and Wireless option. Go to Settings, Privacy, Location Services, and system services on your device. Then enable the networking and wireless option. If it’s already enabled, disable it and enable it again.
  • Try with another mobile device. The current mobile device you are using, might not be compatible with the Bebop 2.

Problem 9: Parrot Bebop 2 GPS not working.

In most cases, Parrot Bebop 2 GPS not working because of poor internet connection or no internet connection, environmental interferences, outdated firmware, outdated Freeflight app, and faulty GPS board.

Solutions.

  • Connect to a strong internet connection.
  • Try to connect GPS signals in an open wide area.
  • Update the Freeflight Pro app.
