(UPDATED) Parrot AR Troubleshooting (Why, How to Fix)

When talking about problems with Parrot AR there are not that many of them reported and reported problems are familiar with almost every drone. So it would be helpful if there is a simple article that contains almost every Parrot AR problem and troubleshooting.

Therefore, So I researched about what are the common issues with Parrot AR to write a simple article answering almost every problem with Parrot AR. Thanks for the youtube and forums it wasn’t that hard.

Common Problems With Parrot AR.

  • Problem 1: Parrot AR not connecting to the controller.
  • Problem 2: Parrot AR not connecting to wifi.
  • Problem 3: Parrot AR battery not charging.
  • Problem 4: Parrot AR not taking off.
  • Problem 5: Parrot AR not stable.
  • Problem 6: Parrot AR not turning on.
  • Problem 7: Parrot AR control link not available.

Problem 1: Parrot AR not connecting to the controller.

Usually, Parrot AR 2.0 is not connecting to the controller because of insufficient battery power, outdated firmware, and faulty aircraft, or controller settings.

Solutions.

  • Charge the Parrot AR aircraft and controller fully or to a sufficient level before a flight. 
  • Keep the Parrot AR controller and aircraft are on the latest firmware.
  • Reset the Parrot AR 2.0. Take a toothpick or something pointed nonmetallic and insert it into the Reset hole at the bottom of the Parrot AR drone. Once the LEDs are green the reset had been completed.

Problem 2: Parrot AR not connecting to wifi.

In most cases, Parrot AR 2.0 is not connecting to the wifi because of faulty AR settings, outdated firmware, and smart device’s wifi issues.

Solutions.

  • Reset Parrot AR wifi settings. To reset the Aircraft take a toothpick or something pointed nonmetallic and insert it into the Reset hole at the bottom of the drone. Once the LEDs are green the reset had been completed.
  • Update Parrot AR firmware. As always, when talking about drone issues, outdated firmware and firmware glitches are the most common reason for the issue. Because updating firmware is essential to stay updated with the current system and fix bugs that older firmware had.
  • Forget AR’s wifi connection. if you have connected to AR’s wifi before then forget the wifi connection and try to connect again.
  • Restart the mobile device.
  • Turn on airplane mode and turn off it. When you turn on airplane mode, it would completely shut down the network on your device. Then when you turn it on again it will try to detect the new devices and reconnect them.
  • Enable Networking and Wireless option. Go to Settings, Privacy, Location Services, and system services on your device. Then enable the networking and wireless option. If it’s already enabled, disable it and enable it again.
  • Try with another device.

Problem 3: Parrot AR battery not charging.

Usually, the Parrot AR 2.0 is not charging due to a faulty battery, outdated battery firmware, faulty or broken charger, improper battery temperature, and most of the time high or insufficient amperage or voltage.

Solutions.

  • Plug the Parrot battery charger into a power outlet with the required voltage and amperage. 
  • If your Parrot AR 2.0’s battery is warm, leave it at room temperature for about 30 minutes to 1 hour. Then connect the battery to the charger and plug it.
  • Check whether the charger is Faulty or broken. Parrot AR charger output voltage is 13.5V and amperage is 0.9A.

Problem 4: Parrot AR not taking off.

In most cases, Parrot AR 2.0 is unable to take off because of an improper propeller installation pattern. Besides that insufficient battery power, unpaired AR aircraft, and outdated firmware could cause the problem.

Solutions.

  • Check whether propellers are mounted correctly. If your Parrot AR won’t take off even though propellers are spinning you might have mounted them in the wrong pattern.
  • Charge its battery to a sufficient level.
  • Update Parrot AR Firmware. Outdated firmware could cause any kind of issues with drones. So it’s worth updating Parrot AR firmware if you haven’t done it yet.

Problem 5: Parrot AR not stable.

Usually, the Parrot AR 2.0 would be unstable when its gyroscope is miscalibrated and have low signals. Also, Electromagnetic interference, malfunctioning motors, and distorted propellers can unstable the drone.

Solutions.

  • Charge the Parrot AR aircraft and controller battery to a sufficient level before taking off. The low battery power of the aircraft or controller could cause a poor connection between them and cause uncontrolled flight.
  • Check Parrot AR’s propellers. Check whether you have placed propellers in the right pattern. Also, check whether a propeller is distorted. If some propellers are distorted or bent because of a crash, you would have to replace propellers.
  • Hit Flat Trim before each flight. Be sure to hit Flat Trim before each flight, which is located on the top left corner to the right of the Settings icon in the FreeFlight app.

Problem 6: Parrot AR not turning on.

Most of the time, Parrot AR 2.0 is not turning on because of Faulty parrot AR batteries, outdated firmware, and insufficient battery.

Solutions.

  • Charge the aircraft and controller battery to a sufficient level before every flight. If your Parrot AR aircraft don’t have enough power to boot the system, it would refuse to turn on.
  • Check whether the Parrot battery is faulty. Use a multimeter and check whether the battery output must be between 7.4V – 11.1V.

Problem 7: Parrot AR control link not available.

According to many forums, this is a common problem for Parrot AR 2.0 drones. They recommend resetting the Parrot AR 2.0 would fix the issue.

Solution.

  • Reset the AR drone. Inspect the reset hole at the bottom of the aircraft and push the button inside the hole using something pointed. once the indicator LEDs flash solid green, the reset process is successfully done.
