(UPDATED) GoPro Karma Troubleshooting (Why, How to Fix)

Even though the GoPro Karma is a unique-looking drone, it has been reported as a drone with so many annoying issues. I think the main reason for that is less focus of the manufacturer on maintaining and fixing issues with Karma. I have heard that some users are unable to even turn on the drone at some point.

Even though some problems need to be fixed on the manufacturer’s side, there are some problems that can be fixed by users. So I decided to discover those problems and write an article about Go Pro Karma troubleshooting which would help Karma users to solve solvable problems with Go Pro Karma.

Common Problems With GoPro Karma.

  • Problem 1: GoPro Karma not connecting to the controller.
  • Problem 2: GoPro Karma not charging.
  • Problem 3: GoPro Karma not connecting to camera.
  • Problem 4: GoPro Karma not working.
  • Problem 5: GoPro Karma not calibrating.
  • Problem 6: GoPro Karma drone not connecting to GPS.

Problem 1: GoPro Karma not connecting to the controller.

In most cases, GoPro Karma is not connecting to the controller because of insufficient battery power, outdated firmware, and an unpaired Karma controller.

Solutions.

  • Charge the GoPro Karma and controller fully or to a sufficient level before a flight.
  • Check whether the Karma aircraft is paired to the controller. Turn off both aircraft and controller then power on the controller. Then open the wifi-seeking panel. After that turn on the aircraft and wait until its wifi connection pops up on the screen. Once it popped up, click on it and enter the password and pair the controller to the aircraft.
  • Reset the controller. Go to Home > Preferences > Reset. Restore resets Karma to the factory settings.
  • Keep Karma’s firmware on the latest version.

Problem 2: GoPro Karma not charging.

Most of the time, GoPro Karma’s battery won’t charge because of higher or lower amperage or voltage. Besides that, outdated battery firmware, faulty battery, faulty chargers, and improper battery temperature also cause the issue.

Solutions.

  • If the battery is warm, leave it in an open area to cool.
  • Plug the charger into a power outlet with the required voltage and current. GoPro Karma charger required 5-15V voltage and 3A amperage input.
  • Check whether the charger is Faulty or broken. Inspect whether the charger’s output supplies sufficient voltage and amperage to charge the battery. If it’s broken replace the charger.
  • Update GoPro Karma Firmware.
  • If the battery is swollen or damaged, replace the battery.

Problem 3: GoPro Karma not connecting to camera.

In most cases, the GoPro Karma camera not working and not showing the camera feed because of older versions of firmware and camera or circuit failures.

Solutions.

  • Update GoPro Karma firmware. If you have older firmware, upgrade the firmware. Having older firmware could make this kind of weird issue.
  • Repair the drone. If you crashed recently, the drone circuit or the camera might have been damaged. So it’s better to meet professionals or send it to GoPro to repair the drone.

Problem 4: GoPro Karma not working.

Usually, the GoPro Karma drone not working or not turning on because of low battery power, damaged battery cells, or circuit failures. Also, I noticed that, some people face this issue because of firmware issues, which need to be fixed by GoPro.

Solutions.

  • Charge the drone battery to a sufficient level before turning it on.
  • Replace the battery. If the battery is not outputting any amperage or voltage or it’s not sufficient, try replacing the battery.
  • Update firmware.

Problem 5: GoPro Karma not calibrating.

Most times the GoPro Karma won’t calibrate the process because of improper environments, outdated firmware, and low battery power. If you are doing it indoors, bring it outdoors. Also, keep electronics and metal away from the aircraft while calibrating the Karma.

Solutions.

  • Charge the battery fully or to a sufficient level before calibration.
  • Update GoPro Karma firmware to the latest version.
  • Calibrate the GoPro Karma in an open area. Perform the calibration process in open wide areas away from powerlines, communication towers, huge buildings, or any electromagnetic interferences.
  • Keep metallic and electronic stuff like watches away from the drone while calibrating.
  • Check whether you are performing it the right way. Check out the below video demonstrating GoPro Karma calibration.

Problem 6: GoPro Karma drone not connecting to GPS.

Outdated firmware, poor internet connection, and environmental interferences are the most common reasons that cause GoPro Karma GPS issues.

Solutions.

  • Connect to a strong internet connection.
  • Update GoPro Karma Firmware.
  • Calibrate the GoPro Karma.
  • Try to connect GPS signals in an open wide area. If you are trying to fly near tall buildings, dense woods, or signal towers it would cause the GPS to be lost. Try to fly in clear weather and open areas.
