So we researched this issue and were able to figure out why DJI Mini 2 not turning on and how to troubleshoot the issue. In this article, we would talk about why your DJI Mini 2 not turning on and how you can fix that issue.
Different scenarios when the DJI Mini 2 won’t turn on.
When researching on this issue, we found that there are two scenarios when the DJI Mini 2 won’t turn on.
Scenario 1: DJI Mini 2 battery is working, but the DJI Mini 2 won’t turn on.
In this scenario, your Mini 2’s battery is charging and working fine but the DJI Mini 2 won’t turn on after pressing the power button. This is caused by the broken power button and replacing the power button with a new one would solve the issue.
Scenario 2: DJI Mini 2 battery not working and unable to turn on Mini 2.
In this scenario, the DJI Mini 2 won’t turn on because of its battery issues. Figuring out the battery issue and troubleshooting it would fix the issue.
Why is DJI Mini 2 not turning on?
In most cases, DJI Mini 2 not turning on because of the broken power-on button and dust/debris accumulation on the power switch inside the Mini 2. Other than that Mini 2 dead battery also could caused the issue.
1. Broken power button.
Many Mini 2 users face issues with powering on the Mini 2 because of a broken power button. Once the power button is broken, the drone won’t turn on even though the physical plastic button is pressed.
2. Dust/ debris accumulation on the power button.
Dust or debris accumulation on the power button (not the plastic button) would interfere with pressing and powering on the Mini 2.
3. DJI Mini 2 battery hibernation.
If you left or stored the DJI Mini 2 smart battery for a long term, it would go into hibernation and won’t work until it is waked from hibernation. So if you use a battery that has gone into hibernation mode, it won’t be able to power the drone.
4. Dead Mini 2 battery.
Dead Mini 2 battery is another reason for this issue. Once the Mini 2 battery detects improper input or output, the battery management system would raise the PF flag and shut down the battery. To recover the battery, the PF flag needs to be cleared from the management system.
5. Swollen Mini 2 battery.
Swollen Mini 2 battery won’t fit inside the aircraft properly and unable to power the drone. If your Mini 2 battery is swollen, it’s advisable to replace the Mini 2 battery with a new one because swollen battery’s cells are poor and could harm the drone.
How to troubleshoot DJI Mini 2 not turning on.
Next, let’s talk about how you can troubleshoot DJI Mini 2 powering on issue. Following the below step-by-step process would fix the causes of the issue and troubleshoot the issue.
Step 1: Recover the dead Mini 2 battery or wake from hibernation.

Step 2: Clean the power button.
Debris and dust accumulation on the power button also could cause this issue. So let’s see how you can clean the power button. Once the drone is uncovered, if you noticed the power button is broken, skip this step and move to step 3.
- Take the battery out from Mini 2.
- Disassemble the Mini 2’s and uncover the drone.
- If it is too dusty, use a bit of wet brush and clean the whole section.
- Then use a cotton bud and clean the power button well. (As I said before, If the power button looks broken, Skip this step and move to step 3)
- Use a metal contact and press the power button 20 times or more.
- Then insert the battery inside the drone and press the button again. Now the Mini 2 would power on and the issue is fixed.
- Now assemble covers back to the Mini 2 and enjoy.
Step 3: If the power button is broken request DJI repair online.
If your Mini 2 battery power button is broken, it needs to be replaced and repaired. For that, you need to remove the heat sink and it could affect the DJI warranty. Also, there are no Mini 2 power buttons to buy online. So it’s advisable to contact DJI to replace the power button.
