(UPDATED) DJI GO App Troubleshooting (Why, How To Fix)

I have seen many DJI users are confused with some DJI GO app issues and struggle to fix them. So I went through many DJI forums and posts and then collected a bunch of DJI GO app issues.

Personally, I have also faced some of them and was able to fix them by researching on the internet. So I researched about other DJI GO app issues and how to fix them and now I’m writing this article for DJI GO app users who are also struggling with the same issues.

Common Issues With DJI GO App.

  • Issue 1: DJI GO won’t connect to the drone.
  • Issue 2: DJI GO won’t connect to the controller.
  • Issue 3: DJI GO won’t download videos.
  • Issue 4: DJI GO won’t open/ DJI GO not working.

Issue 1: DJI GO won’t connect to the drone.

Most of the time DJI GO app won’t connect to the drone because of an outdated app version, glitched app, faulty cache data, or issues with the mobile device’s wireless connections. Also, it could be an effect of a drone’s issue. Such as outdated / glitched firmware or faulty settings.

Solutions.

  • Restart the aircraft and try connecting again. It could be just an effect of a temporary glitch in the drone. Restarting the aircraft would back them to default.
  • Turn on Airplane mode and turn it off. Turning on Airplane mode shuts down all wireless connections and when it’s turned off, it restarts and looks for wifi connections.
  • Clear cache data of the DJI GO app or restart the mobile device. By doing this you would clear faulty cache data that could cause the error.
  • Update the DJI GO app to the latest. If you haven’t updated the DJI GO app to the latest version, or the app is glitched. Download and install the DJI GO app from the DJI Downloads Center.
  • Update the DJI drone’s firmware. If you want to know how to update the DJI firmware, check out the article on How to Update DJI Drone Firmware. After updating the firmware try connecting to the aircraft.
  • Factory reset the drone. Download and install DJI Assistant 2 from the DJI Download center. Then connect the drone to the PC using the USB cable and power on the aircraft. Log in to your DJI account and choose your DJI drone. Then hit “Factory Restore Defaults” and wait until the process completes. Once the drone is reset, try to connect to the drone.
  • Use another device. Install the app on a different device and try connecting to the drone.

Issue 2: DJI GO won’t connect to the controller.

In most cases, the DJI GO app is unable to connect to the controller because of using a damaged USB cable, remote controller’s firmware issues, and also DJI GO app issues.

Solutions.

  • Restart the mobile device and try again.
  • Update the DJI GO app to the latest version.
  • Update the remote controller’s firmware using DJI Assistant 2. Download and install DJI Assistant 2 to the PC and connect the remote controller to the PC. Then power on the remote controller and launch the DJI Assistant 2 on PC. Log in to your DJI account. Then select your DJI Drone and click on the “Firmware Updates” on the left panel and click on the “Upgrade” option. Click on “Start Update” and wait until the firmware is downloaded and installed. Then restart the aircraft. Follow the same steps with connecting the drone and update its firmware too. Once it has been done, connect the remote controller to the mobile device and check whether the issue is fixed.
  • Replace the USB cable. As I found usually, it’s caused by damaged USB cables. So if you have a spare one try connecting that or buy a new one.

Issue 3: DJI GO won’t download videos.

Many DJI users have reported that they are unable to download videos when cellular data to download files. I think there’s nothing wrong with using cellular data to download video, it’s just a DJI GO issue. Hope it would be fixed in the latest update.

Solution.

  • Turn on airplane mode and connect to a Wifi connection. Turn off the Cellular Data / Mobile Data and connect Wifi connection. Then try downloading the video. Also, it’s better to turn on airplane mode to shut down all cellular connections.
  • Update the DJI GO app. As I said before I suspect that it’s a DJI GO app issue. It would be fixed in the upcoming update. So if you haven’t updated the DJI GO app yet just update the app and try downloading the video.

Issue 4: DJI GO won’t open/ DJI GO not working.

Most of the time, the DJI GO app not working or opening because of installing a glitched Apk file or temporary glitch. Also if your device is incompatible with the App, it could also cause this issue.

Solutions.

  • Restart the mobile device. If you are getting this issue suddenly and you used the app well before, it could be just a temporary glitch. Restart the mobile device and check whether the issue is fixed.
  • Check your smartphone is compatible with the DJI GO app. Visit DJI GO info page and check whether your device is compatible with the DJI GO app. DJI GO app is compatible with iOS 8.0 or later and Android 4.1.2 or later.
  • Download the original APK file from the DJI Download Center. If you are an iOS user, download the DJI app only from the Appstore.
