Ryze Tello Error Codes (Meanings, How to Fix)

Ryze Tello is a mini drone from DJI and also unique from other DJI drones. When I was on Tellopilots forums, I found that some users are confused and struggling with Ryze Tello error codes and fixing them.

So I thought it would be helpful for Ryze Tello users if there would be an article about Ryze Tello error codes and solving them. As I found, there are not that many error codes with Ryze Tello compared to other DJI drones.

Common Ryze Tello Error Codes.

  • Error 1: Ryze Tello error code 13
  • Error 2: Ryze Tello error code 29
  • Error 3: Ryze Tello camera sensor error.
  • Error 4: Ryze Tello sensor error.

Error 1: Ryze Tello error code 13.

Usually, Ryze Tello error code 13 is caused by battery and firmware issues. Many users were able to fix this error by just updating the firmware. Let’s see what are the other operations that could fix the issue.

How to Fix Ryze Tello error code 13.

  • Update Ryze Tello Firmware. Power on the Ryze Tello drone and connect to Tello app. Once the Tello app is launched, it would notify you a new firmware update is available. If the Tello app doesn’t prompt an “update firmware” message when launching the Tello app, click on the three dots in the top left corner and click on the update button in the firmware version section. Select “Download” to download the firmware. If you are using Wifi to download you need to disconnect from the Ryze Tello and download it. Once the firmware is completely downloaded, click update to update the Ryze Tello’s firmware. The Ryze Tello’s indicator will start to blink red. When the firmware updating process is completed, Ryze Tello would reboot automatically. Sometimes you might have to restart the drone manually. If you need to restart the drone manually, the Tello app would notify you to restart the app. Don’t restart the Ryze Tello mid of the updating process it would fail the firmware updating process. Then connect to the Ryze Tello again and check whether the firmware is on the latest firmware.
  • Calibrate the IMU. Remove propellers and place the Tello on a flat surface and power on the Tello. Then connect to Tello app. Enter camera view and click on three dots at the left top corner. Then enter More and tap the “Calibrate” button in the IMU section. Then place the drone in different as shown on the Tello app. Once all positions are calibrated, you are ready to go.
  • Replace the battery.


Error 2: Ryze Tello error code 29.

Usually, Ryze Tello error code 29 is a motor error and caused by IMU miscalibration. So the proper IMU calibration process would fix the error.

How to Fix Ryze Tello error code 29.

  • Restart the drone.
  • Calibrate the IMU. Remove propellers and place the Tello on a flat surface. Then power on the Tello and connect to Tello app. Enter camera view and click on three dots at the left top corner. Then enter More and tap the “Calibrate” button in the IMU section. Then place the drone in different as shown on the Tello app.


Error 3: Ryze Tello camera sensor error.

Ryze Tello camera sensor error is usually a glitch in wifi connection, camera sensor, or Tello app.

How to fix Ryze Tello camera senosr error.

  • Restart the Ryze Tello.
  • Clean the camera sensor.
  • Forget the Ryze Tello Wifi and connect again. This action is effective and many users were able to fix this issue by doing that. Go to your wifi connections on your phone that you connected to the Ryze Tello and forget the connection. Then turn the Wifi off and on it again. Once the Ryze Tello is popped again connect to it.

Error 4: Ryze Tello sensor error.

In most cases, Ryze Tello sensor error is caused by IMU miscalibration. Rebooting the aircraft and calibrating the IMU would help with fixing the issue.

  • Reboot the Tello.
  • Calibrate Ryze Tello IMU. Remove propellers and place the Tello on a flat surface. Then power on the Tello and connect to the Tello app. Enter camera view and click on three dots at the left top corner. Then enter More and tap the “Calibrate” button in the IMU section. Then place the drone in different as shown on the Tello app.
