(SOLVED) DJI Phantom 4 / 4 Pro LED Blinking Codes (What Do They Mean And How To Fix)

Usually, almost every DJI drones, including DJI Phantom 4, uses LED blinking patterns as a communication method with the user. Usually, those indications are just indicating avoidable messages. But sometimes there are some LED blinking patterns that indicate Phantom 4 errors and glitches.

Therefore it’s better to have some knowledge about those LED blinking patterns, what they mean and how to fix them. Below there is the list of Phantom 4/ 4 Pro aircraft and battery LED blinking codes and then we will talk about them in detail.

DJI Phantom 4 / 4 Pro LED Blinking Codes.

  • Code 1: DJI Phantom 4 Blinking Red Light.
  • Code 2: DJI Phantom 4 Blinking Yellow Light.
  • Code 3: DJI Phantom 4 Flashing Red And Yellow.
  • Code 4: DJI Phantom 4 Remote Controller Blinking White.
  • Code 5: DJI Phantom 4 Remote Controller Blinking Red Green.
  • Code 6: DJI Phantom 4 Battery Blinking 16 Times/ DJI Phantom 4 Battery LED 4 blinks three times per second.

Code 1: DJI Phantom 4 Blinking Red Light.

Usually, DJI Phantom 4 indicator LEDs blink red because of low battery power. Therefore you need to charge the Phantom 4 aircraft battery fully or to a sufficient level.

Code 2: DJI Phantom 4 Blinking Yellow Light.

If your Phantom 4 aircraft LEDs blinking yellow, that means the aircraft needs to be linked to the controller.

  1. Connect the mobile device to the controller and power on the Phantom 4 controller and aircraft.
  2. Open the DJI GO app and go to camera view, click on three dots on the top left corner and click on the RC icon.
  3. Then scroll down and click on the “Linking RC” button and hit “OK”.
  4. Once you have done that, find the red flashing circular hole between the USB and SD card slot and press it using a pen or suitable tool.
  5. Then the controller would be linked to the aircraft and the aircraft would flash green.

Code 3: DJI Phantom 4 Flashing Red And Yellow.

If your Phantom 4 indicators keep blinking yellow and red, that means the Phantom 4’s IMU or compass is miscalibrated and required calibration.

Solution 1: Calibrate Phantom 4 IMU.

  1. Remove aircraft propellers and turn on the aircraft.
  2. Connect the Remote Controller to the mobile device.
  3. Open DJI GO 4 App and go to Main Remote Controller Settings > Advanced Settings > Sensors.
  4. Then tap Calibrate IMU.
  5. Place the aircraft according to the demonstration on the DJI GO4 app. Once all the positions are calibrated the IMU calibration is successfully done.

Solution 2: Calibrate Phantom 4 Compass.

  1. Bring the Phantom 4 Compass Calibration process outdoor where away from dense woods and buildings.
  2. Remove the propellers before you start the compass calibration.
  3. Open the DJI GO 4 app and tap on the Aircraft Status Bar and select “Calibrate”.
  4. Then hold the Phantom aircraft as demonstrated on the DJI GO 4 screen.
  5. Hold the Phantom 4 aircraft horizontally and rotate 360 degrees. Phantom 4 status indicators will flash solid green light when it’s successful.
  6. Then hold the aircraft vertically, with the nose pointing down, and rotate it 360 degrees around the center axis.
  7. Once the compass calibration process is successful, the status indicators would flash green.

Code 4: DJI Phantom 4 Remote Controller Blinking White.

Usually, DJI Phantom 4 controller indicator LEDs flash white to indicate the battery level of the controller. But if your controller’s first indicator LED flashing white and beeping even while it’s connected to the charger, that means the remote controller’s battery is faulty. Code 5: DJI Phantom 4 Remote Controller Blinking Red Green.

As reported, many users face DJI Phantom 4 controller blinking red and green issues after updating DJI Phantom 4 firmware. Therefore this issue must be a result of a firmware glitch. Most of the time, firmware upgrade glitches are caused by performing the firmware upgrade process through DJI GO 4 mobile app. So it’s advisable to upgrade DJI Phantom 4 firmware using DJI Assistant 2 PC application.

Solution: Revert /Upgrade the DJI Phantom 4 controller and aircraft firmware using DJI Assistant 2.

  1. Download and install the DJI Assistant 2 PC application to your Windows or Mac OS.
  2. Connect the Phantom 4 Aircraft using the USB cable and power on the drone.
  3. Open the DJI Assistant 2 and log in to your DJI account.
  4. Once you are logged in, you will be directed to the “Firmware Updates” and select “Update”> “Start Update”. Then wait until the process is succeeded.
  5. After that unplug the drone and plug the remote controller. As before select “Update” > “Start Update” and wait until updating process is done.

Code 6: DJI Phantom 4 Battery Blinking 16 Times /DJI Phantom 4 Battery LED 4 blinks three times per second.

In most cases, the DJI Phantom 4 battery blinks 16 times, because of high temperature of the battery. Actually, 16 times of indicator blinking indicates that you need to cool off the battery before you put back it to the charger.

If you left the Phantom 4 inside a closed warm place or flew intense in sports mode, the battery should have exceeded the proper temperature range and you need to cool off the battery before you plug it into the charger. Leave the battery in airflow to cool off and then plug it to the charger to solve the problem.

Code 8: DJI Phantom 4 Battery LED 3 Blinking 3 Times Per Second.

Usually, DJI Phantom 4 battery LED 3 blinks 3 times per second when the battery detects overvoltage. So check whether the charger is faulty and try connecting the battery to another Phantom 4 charger. Also, try plugging the charger into another outlet.

Code 9: DJI Phantom 4 Battery LED 3 Blinking Twice Per Second.

If your DJI Phantom 4 battery LED 3 is blinking twice per second, that means you have left the battery in the charger for more than enough time. Simple the battery has detected overcharge. So unplug the battery from the charger.

Code 10: DJI Phantom 4 Battery LED 2 Blinking 3 Times Per Second.

Phantom 4 battery LED 2 blinks three times per second when it detects a short circuit. So if your Phantom 4 battery also acts the same you have to replace the battery or send the battery to DJI to repair the battery.

Code 11: DJI Phantom 4 Battery LED 2 Blinking Twice Per Second.

Usually, DJI Phantom 4 battery LED 2 blinks twice per second when the battery detects over current. Check whether the charger is faulty. Also, try with another charger or plug it into another outlet. Don’t plug the battery into a different type of charger.

Code 12: DJI Phantom 4 Battery LED 1 Blinking.

If your DJI Phantom 4 battery LED 1 is blinking while charging that means that your Phantom 4 battery is faulty. Most of the time, replacing the battery is the best option to solve the issue.
