5 Ways To Fix DJI Stick Error (Mavic, Phantom, Inspire)

I have many people are asking about DJI Stick error on many DJI forums and other forums. The DJI Stick Error also known as the remote controller stick error is an error related to the remote controller, not to the DJI aircraft.

Once you got the remote controller stick error, the remote controller would keep beeping once it turned on. The DJI stick error is so common for almost every DJI drone and a fixable error. Therefore this article would help for almost every DJI drone user who is struggling with DJI stick error.

Causes For DJI Stick Error (DJI Remote Controller Stick Error).

Let’s look at the causes of DJI stick error and how they cause the error.

1. Miscalibrated remote controller.

The miscalibrated remote controller is the most common reason for the DJI stick error. Once the remote controller’s sticks are not aligned and calibrated well, the DJI stick error would be thrown and start beeping. Most of the time users can fix the stick error by calibrating the DJI remote controller.

2. Remote controller’s firmware glitch/ faulty firmware.

The remote controller’s firmware glitch or faulty firmware is another reason for the DJI stick error. The remote controller’s firmware is the software that is responsible for controlling the remote controller’s operations (including detecting errors). Therefore firmware glitches and faulty firmware also could cause the DJI stick error.

3. Remote controller’s faulty settings.

Stored faulty remote controller’s settings and data are another reason for DJI stick error. Those faulty settings could be temporary or permanent. If those faulty settings which cause for DJI stick, are temporary, you would be able to fix the stick error by restarting the remote controller. If faulty settings are permanent, you would have to factory reset the remote controller.

4. Faulty Remote controller.

If you just bought or crashed the remote controller and face this error and still struggling with the error after calibrating the remote controller, updating firmware, and resetting, there is a huge chance of having a faulty or damaged remote controller.

How to Fix DJI Stick Error (Remote controller stick error).

Let’s go through step by step process of fixing the causes of DJI stick error. Ultimately we would be able to fix the DJI stick error.

1. Restart the remote controller.

This is the first and easiest step to fix the remote controller stick error. As I said before faulty settings could cause stick error. Therefore restarting the remote controller would help with clearing faulty temporary settings. If temporary faulty settings cause the error, the error would be gone once the remote controller is restarted. So first restart the remote controller and check whether the stick error is gone.

2. Calibrate the remote controller.

As I mentioned before the miscalibrated remote controller is a major reason for DJI stick error. Also, many users were able to fix the stick error just by calibrating the remote controller. Follow the below steps to calibrate the remote controller.

How to Calibrate the DJI remote controller.

  • Connect the remote controller to the mobile device and turn on the remote controller. Open the DJI GO app and enter the camera view.
  • Then click on the three dots at the top left corner. Click on the remote controller icon and tap remote calibration.
  • Then you will be directed to the Calibration process.
  • once you are ready for RC calibration push both sticks up all the way to coincide the virtual dots with directing dots. (Watch the below video for a better understating).
  • Then follow the directing dot with the controller sticks’ virtual dots.
  • Once it is completed, turn the gimbal wheel to both sides to calibrate the gimbal wheel.
  • The calibration process would finish successfully.

How to Calibrate the DJI smart remote controller.

  • Connect the remote controller to the mobile device and turn on the remote controller. Open the DJI Fly app and enter camera view.
  • Then click on the three dots at the top left corner and enter “Control” menu.
  • Then scroll down and click on “RC Calibration”. Keep both stick in center to start calibration and hit “Start”.
  • Do left and right sticks circles one after the other.

3. Update/ Downgrade the remote controller’s firmware using DJI Assistant 2.

The remote controller’s firmware glitches also could be a reason for the DJI stick error. Update the remote controller’s firmware using DJI Assistant 2 to the latest and check whether is gone. Also, give a try on remote controller calibration as described on the step 2 after the firmware update. Let’s see how it’s done.

  1. Download and install DJI Assistant 2 from the DJI Download center.
  2. Power off the remote controller and connect to the PC through the charging port using a micro USB cable. Then power on the remote controller.
  3. Open DJI Assistant 2 application on the PC and log in to your DJI account.
  4. Then select your DJI Drone and click on the “Firmware Updates” on the left panel and click on the “Upgrade” option.
  5. Click on “Start Update”.
  6. Wait until the firmware is completely downloaded and the firmware update process would start automatically.
  7. Follow the above steps again with connecting the aircraft and update its firmware too.
  8. Once those steps are done, power on the remote controller and check whether the error is gone. If it’s not recalibrate the remote controller as explained in step two.

4. Factory reset the smart remote controller.

Factory resetting the remote controller would clear permanently stored faulty settings on the remote controller that could cause the error. Therefore if you are using DJI smart controller factory reset the smart controller to clear faulty settings.

Factory reset the smart controller using DJI GO 4 app.

  1. Power on the controller and the DJI GO 4 app. Then locate the button title “ME”.
  2. Press the button and enter the information screen.
  3. After that, press the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner and then “clear cache”.
  4. clear the cache data and sign out.
  5. Then enter the settings menu.
  6. Scroll down on the settings menu and hit Factory Data Reset.
  7. Then confirm the Factory Data Reset.

After resetting the remote controller check whether the error is gone. Else calibrate the remote controller again.

5. Replace the remote controller.

If you are still struggling with the DJI stick error, there must be something wrong with the hardware of the remote controller. Therefore you would have to replace or repair the remote controller. So the next advisable step is to connect with DJI Support and get help with repairing or replacing the remote controller.
