(FIXED) DJI Mavic Pro Won’t Turn On? (Why, How to Fix)

When you are having nice weather and trying to fly your Mavic Pro, But if it’s not turning, It’s quite annoying and sad. I have heard stories about Mavic Pro not turning on here and there. So I wondered what are the reasons and what are common fixes to solve these issues.

After researching and talking with experienced Mavic Pro pilots, I knew what are the reasons and fixes that can easily solve the problem and I bring them all into this post on thedronestop. Let’s have a look at why DJI Mavic Pro is not turning on.

Why is the DJI Mavic Pro not turning on?

In most cases, DJI Mavic Pro won’t turn on because of battery issues and Improper switching on the Mavic Pro. If you are living in cold weather, It also would be the main reason for why your Mavic Pro won’t turn on.

Reason 1: Switching on the Mavic Pro improperly.

This section is for users who just bought DJI Mavic pro. If you have flown the DJI Mavic Pro or any DJI drone, I’m pretty sure you know how things work. If you have just flown regular drones, this would be a different experience for you. Trust me it’s not that hard. I swear😊

Reason 2: Battery has gone into hibernation.

If you left the Mavic Pro battery for a long term, it would go into hibernation to save the battery from further discharge. In this state, you can’t manually turn off the battery power LED. If you can’t turn off your Mavic Pro’s LED after turning it on, your Mavic Pro battery also has gone into hibernation mode.

Reason 3: The battery management system has shut down.

If the Mavic Pro battery has detected power failures, Usually it raises PF flags (power failure) and shut down the battery management system. After a BMS (battery management system) shut down, the battery won’t function as usual.

Reason 4: The battery contact or connectors are dusty or dirty

As I mentioned before, battery-related issues are the main reason for this situation in many cases. Having dirty or dusty battery contact or connectors is one of them. The thick dust sitting on the contact would make a lack of power supply to the drone. So the drone is not gonna turn on.

Reason 5: You charged the battery too soon after a flight

Once you finish a long flight, your battery gets really hot. So if you try to charge the battery as soon after a flight, the battery gets even hotter because of the resistance of the battery and probably the intelligent battery would stop working temporarily to keep the battery safe.

Reason 6: It’s too cold for the battery to function.

Usually, I have heard of situations where cold weather causes this problem around the December holidays when temperatures are often at their lowest. When temperatures are below 5° C,  the battery will stop working entirely. In addition, temperatures slightly warmer, though still frigid, can damage batteries.

Reason 7: Faulty battery.

Bad battery cell

If you notice some damage in DJI Intelligent batteries the better option is to stop using the battery rather than risking the whole DJI Mavic Pro. DJI also has considered that in DJI drone battery tips. f you have a swollen battery, that’s the nightmare of bad battery cells. You should dispose of them safely immediately. It can be exposed when it’s inside the Mavic Pro.

Damaged pins

Powering the Mavic Pro relies on lining up a series of metallic contacts between the battery and the drone. Because of frequent use, those pins can easily become bent out of shape. Also, the pins can become corroded through contact with moisture or other corrosive material – like a leaky battery.

How to fix DJI Mavic Pro not turning on issue.

Step 1: Turn on the Mavic Pro properly.

  • To power up the Mavic Pro, you must press the button on the battery once, then press and hold again for 3 seconds. Actually, it’s a two-step process because DJI drones operate with an intelligent toggle battery system.

Step 2: Make sure the battery is in the proper temperature range.

Intelligent batteries quite often operate well between a specific temperature range (this is typically between 5° C and 40° C).

  • If the Mavic Pro battery is too hot, leave it somewhere safe with good airflows, like a table or shelf. Wait approximately 30 minutes to reach room temperature.
  • If you are in a frigid area or winter season, use a heated lipo battery bag to store the battery. If the Mavic Pro battery is too cold, keep it inside your jacket for a few minutes to warm it to the proper temperature.

Step 3: Clean Battery pins and aircraft connectors.

  • Take the battery out and look at the slots. Use a brush and gently clean the battery connector ports and wipe the battery with a clean cloth. Also, clean the Mavic Pro aircraft’s battery connectors too.

Step 4: Take the battery out of hibernation.

As I mentioned before, If you can’t turn off your Mavic Pro’s LED after turning it on, your Mavic Pro battery also has gone into hibernation mode.

  • Power on the battery and leave the battery unattended for 5 minutes. Then the power LED would turn off.
  • Then recharge the battery and bring it out from hibernation mode.

Step 5: Clear PF flags and recover the battery management system.

In this step, we are going to clear PF flags that usually cause this issue and recover the battery. Many users were able to recover their Mavic Pro battery by clearing PF flags.

For this step you need,

  1. BQ Studio software.
  2. EV2300 EVM interface board (Buy on Aliexpress).
  • Uncover the Mavic Pro battery shell.

  • And take out the board covering the BMS (battery management system) of the battery.

  • Now you would see all the metallic connecting points (SCL, SDA, PRES-M, GND, V1, V2, V3, etc). From these, we need SCL, SDA, and GND)

  • When inspecting the EV2300 interface board, you would see ports named SMBD, SMBC, and GND. Now we need to connect them by soldering connection cables connected to those ports to the Mavic Pro’s BMS (battery management system).

Make sure to connect the EV2300 ports with the correct Mavic Pros battery’s BMS port.

  1. SMBC -> SCL
  2. SMBD -> SDA
  3. GND -> GND

  • Download and install the BQ Studio.
  • Connect the EV2300 to the PC and open the BQ Studio application. If nothing is shown tap the “Refresh” button.

  • Go to the “Seal Auth” tab and unseal the battery by selecting the “Unseal” option and pressing the “Go” button.

  • Go to the “Seal Auth” tab and select “Seal”. Then click the “Go” button.

  • Now the battery issue is fixed and you just have to unplug connected wires from EV2300 and set up carefully the battery as it was.
  • Connect the battery to the charger and charge the battery fully and enjoy it.

Step 6: Check your battery for damage and replace if necessary

As I said most times, battery issues are the biggest reason why Mavic Pro is not turning on. If you notice visual swelling, leaking, bent terminals, or damage you should stop using the battery immediately because those batteries can harm your drone. Also, Dji advised pilots to replace the battery after reaching 200 charging cycles. Read More About It!
