(FIXED) DJI Drone Flashing And Blinking (Why, How to Fix)

As DJI drone users everyone has faced situations where the DJI drone flashing their LED indicators in different patterns or keeps blinking. Usually, the DJI drone or the controller’s indicators blink abnormally with different patterns and colors to indicate a problem or status. Sometimes DJI drone users are unable to understand why DJI drone is blinking LED and how to fix that.

Therefore as an active DJI drone user, I’m responsible for helping to figure out other users who are unable to figure out why the DJI drone indicator is blinking and how to fix it. We would talk about almost every DJI drone indicator LEDs blinking patterns, why it’s happening, and how to fix it. Hopefully, this article would help you to figure out why the DJI drone, the controller, and the DJI battery is flashing or blinking.

DJI drone flashing and blinking scenarios.

Scenario 1: DJI drone indicators flashing green and yellow alternatively.

If your DJI drone indicator is blinking green and yellow alternatively, you don’t have to worry, because it’s a pretty normal and common scenario. DJI drone indicator flashes green and yellow alternatively to indicate the drone is warming up.

How to Fix: In this scenario, you don’t have to do anything special. You just have to wait patiently until the drone is warmed up to optimum temperature.

Scenario 2: DJI drone indicator flashing green slowly.

This is not a warning indication. It’s a status indication. It indicates that the drone is in P- mode (Position mode) with strong GPS signals and is safe to fly. So there’s nothing to get scared of.

Scenario 3: DJI drone indicators flashing yellow slowly.

This pattern is also a normal indication. It means the drone is in ATTI mode with no GPS signals and safe to fly.

Scenario 4: DJI drone indicators flashing yellow quickly.

Flashing the indicator yellow quickly is a warning indication. This warning indication pattern means that the drone has lost remote controller signals.

How to Fix: To avoid this warning indication, you would have to relink the DJI drone and remote controller again.

  • Step 1: First, power on the drone and controller.
  • Step 2: Then connect the phone or tablet device to the controller.
  • Step 3: Launch the DJI app on your smart device and head to the remote controller’s settings.
  • Step 4: Scroll all the way down and tap on the “Linking RC” option and select “Primary Controller”.
  • Step 5: Once you have done that, the controller would start to beep and you need to press the function button of the drone for under a minute.
  • Step 6: After that, the linking process would start and indicators would blink green when it’s done.

If your drone still keeps disconnecting from the controller, we have to figure out that issue too. Read the article Why Drone Keeps Disconnecting From The Controller to figure out about disconnecting issue and how to fix it.

Scenario 5: DJI drone indicators flashing red slowly/ quickly.

If your drone indicators are flashing red slowly, it means the drone has a low battery level. Also if they are flashing red quickly it means batteries are critically low. So to avoid this scenario, you need to charge the drone battery to a sufficient level before flying the drone.

Scenario 6: DJI drone indicators flashing red in an alternative pattern.

If you have faced this scenario, it means your drone has an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) error or IMU calibration failure. To fix this issue you would have to calibrate the IMU of the drone properly. You can simply perform an IMU calibration by navigating on the DJI app to main controller settings, advanced settings, sensors, IMU, and tapping on the “calibrate” option. The DJI app would demonstrate and instruct you through the proper steps to calibrate the IMU.

Scenario 7: DJI drone indicators flashing red and yellow alternatively.

If you notice that your DJI drone is flashing red and yellow alternatively, it means the drone requires a compass calibration. So avoid this scenario, you need to calibrate the compass properly. Open the DJI app then head to controller settings, advanced settings, compass and tap “calibrate”. Then the DJI app would guide you on how to calibrate the compass with demonstrations.

DJI remote controller flashing and blinking scenarios.

Scenario 1: DJI remote controller indicator flashes solid green/blue.

This is fully normal and positive. This means your remote controller is functioning normally and fully charged.

Scenario 2: DJI remote controller indicator flashes solid red.

If your remote controller is turned off, connected to the charge, and flashes solid red that means it’s charging. But if it’s on and still flashing solid red, it means the remote controller is not connected to the drone.

How to Fix: Pair the drone and controller together. Open the DJI app and scroll all the way down and tap on the “Linking RC” option and select “Primary Controller”. Then press the function button of the drone asap. Wait until the process is done.

If it still keeps disconnecting read the Why Drone Keeps Disconnecting From The Controller article to fix that issue.

Scenario 3: DJI remote controller indicator blinking red slowly/quickly.

DJI remote controller blinking red slowly means a low battery level. If it’s blinking red quickly, that means the controller battery is critically low. So recharge the controller battery to a sufficient level to avoid this indication.

Scenario 4: DJI remote controller indicator blinking green slowly.

If you have left your drone for about 6 minutes inactively, the remote controller would start to blink green slowly.

DJI battery flashing and blinking scenarios while charging.

Scenario 1: DJI battery LED 2 blinks twice per second.

If your battery LED 2 is blinking twice per second while charging, it means the battery has detected over current. Charging the DJI battery with different charging cables is the most common reason for this scenario. So if you are using a different charger, remove it and try charging with a proper DJI charger.

If you are using a proper DJI charger, plug the charger into a different outlet or try charging another DJI charger.

Scenario 2: DJI battery LED 2 blinks three times per second.

This indication is a little bit bad and the issue is hard to figure out. Unfortunately, this pattern indicates a short circuit was detected. This could be an issue with the battery or the charger. So you would have to check both battery and the charger with another battery and charger to figure out which one has a short circuit.

Fixing a short circuit requires a professional’s knowledge of electronics. So if you are not related to that contact DJI Support for help. Because DJI isn’t happy about messing with their hardware.

Scenario 3: DJI battery LED 3 blinks twice per second.

This means the battery has overcharged. So unplug the battery from the charger.

Scenario 4: DJI battery LED 3 blinks three times per second.

This pattern indicates that the battery has detected overvoltage. Plug the charge into another wall outlet.

Scenario 5: DJI battery LED 4 blinks twice per second.

This indicates the charging temperature is too low. Leave the battery in the charge for a few minutes so the battery would warm up and start to charge.

Scenario 6: DJI battery LED 4 blinks three times per second.

If you just flew the drone or left the drone in a closed warm place and tried to charge it could be the reason why this indication is showing up. Usually, DJI battery LED 4 blinks three times per second when the charging battery temperature is too high. Unplug the battery from the charger and leave it for a few minutes in an open area.
